Damned With This Town

from Gavels EP by Adam Anzio

lyrics

I remember a time this was the place to be.
I remember a time when people here were free.
I wasn't condemned for kissing in public
for playing punk rock, or being different,
for not drinking or getting fucked up
for choosing ketchup instead of mustard.
I did what I did. I said what I said.
If I spoke my mind, I wouldn't end up dead.

Then I leave for a moment to travel around.
When everything good has gone, or has been shut down.
When it's time for me to come ashore, I know exactly where I want to go
But it's not the same. I've missed out. Everything is gone, but I'm stuck here now.

They say: With my friends and with my look, I have to stick inside a hole.
To be somewhere, and only there; and never show my face in another place.
They say: Why is he here? Why does he keep showing up?
No one respects you, no one care what it is.
A person like you couldn't be in school
A person like you could never be cool

But I'm not a farmer. I'm not a lumberjack.
I'm not a charlatan. I'm not a depressive hack.
But the next thing I say, and the next move I make
will be demonized. A big mistake.
Police me up, then I go down. Damned with you. Damned with this town!

But now that I'm gone. I'm finally sane.
Hoping to never have to do this again.
Coming back, no doubt, was a big mistake.
But what's done is done. Not to be fake. Coming back was a big mistake.
